Desert Sun Original Acrylic Painting, Art From The Artist

This artwork is a colorful 40" x 40" acrylic painting titled "Sink Your Teeth Into The Sun", original and one of a kind painted in the New Mexico studio of contemporary artist Thomas Hill.

This abstract expressionist painting radiates energy, movement, and spontaneity through a bold interplay of saturated color, layered gestures, and dynamic mark-making. A luminous field of lemon yellow dominates the composition, creating a sense of light and atmosphere that envelops the entire surface.

Sweeping arcs of turquoise and aqua move across the canvas, guiding the eye through a landscape of vivid oranges, deep crimsons, magentas, and emerald greens. Thick passages of paint, drips, scratches, and translucent washes reveal a history of intuitive decisions, giving the work a rich sense of depth and process. Areas of opaque color collide with delicate veils of lavender, white, and gray, creating moments of tension and release.

Near the center, a dramatic diagonal of green and red acts as a visual spine, anchoring the composition amid the surrounding bursts of color. Textural contrasts—ranging from smooth blended passages to heavily worked surfaces—add a tactile quality that invites close inspection. Dark linear accents and rhythmic drip formations introduce an almost calligraphic element, suggesting fragments of a visual language without becoming representational.

The painting evokes the feeling of sunlight, heat, growth, and transformation. While entirely abstract, it hints at organic forms, blooming landscapes, and shifting horizons, allowing viewers to bring their own interpretations to the experience. The result is a vibrant, contemporary composition that balances exuberance with structure, celebrating color as both subject and emotion.

It is a work exploring form, color, unconscious abstraction and physical movement. This painting is unique in it's image, it's juxtaposition of color and it's sweeping range of abstract painterly techniques. It has some texture and a variety of paint applications, including fluorescents, to add vibrancy to the image. Charcoal accents are also present.

You must see this large painting in person to fully appreciate it's scope, size and beauty!

It is hand-signed and dated both on the front and the back. High quality professional acrylic paints used on a 1 1/2" deep gallery wrapped, quality 10 ounce thick cotton duck canvas. Stretched on a reinforced wooden frame, this gallery wrapped canvas is splined and stapled on the back and painted on all sides to reveal a wraparound painting that needs no framing.

It is ready to hang unframed and comes with all hanging hardware attached. It is archival, will last for decades to come and is an exceptional value for an original art piece.

This artwork would make a great addition to your home, business, or as a gift.
