Before The Storm Original Art Acrylic Painting

Subtle color with some texture, a 24" x 30" acrylic painting titled "Before The Storm", original and one of a kind painted in the New Mexico studio of contemporary artist Thomas Hill.

This abstract painting has a soft, atmospheric quality, built from layered washes of color and subtle surface texture. The upper portion is dominated by smoky blue, teal, gray, and charcoal tones, creating the feeling of storm clouds, weathered stone, or distant sky. Beneath that darker canopy, warmer colors emerge: golden yellow, ochre, pale cream, orange, coral, and muted red.

The composition feels fluid and organic, with color fields blending into one another rather than forming hard-edged shapes. A vertical orange-red passage near the right-center gives the painting a strong focal glow, while the yellow-green area through the middle adds warmth and movement. The lower left contains a soft coral arc that gently balances the stronger orange area on the right.

Textural marks, scratches, raised lines, and faint drips give the surface a tactile, weathered presence. These details add depth without interrupting the overall calm mood. The painting feels contemplative and atmospheric, suggesting landscape, memory, weather, and emotion rather than a specific scene.

Overall, it is a warm yet moody abstract work with a luminous center, expressive texture, and a quiet sense of movement. It is hand-signed and dated both on the front and the back. High quality acrylic paints used on a 1 1/2" gallery wrapped quality 10 ounce thick cotton duck canvas. Stretched on a strong wooden frame, this gallery wrapped canvas is stapled on the back and painted on all sides to reveal a wraparound painting. It is ready to hang unframed and comes with all hanging hardware attached. It is archival and will last for decades to come.
