Not California Original Abstract Painting, Acrylic on Canvas 30"x40"

Another look back at a past life in this 30" x 40" acrylic painting titled "California Used To Be Nice", original and one of a kind painted in the New Mexico studio of contemporary artist Thomas Hill.

This abstract painting evokes the feeling of a remembered place rather than a literal landscape. Soft washes of pale yellow, blue, and green create an atmospheric backdrop, while bold geometric forms in warm oranges, rusts, and deep charcoal emerge from the composition like fragments of architecture suspended in light.

A dark rectangular shape near the center suggests a window or doorway, anchoring the painting amid a network of angled planes and layered forms. Broad diagonal strokes and ladder-like elements introduce a sense of movement and structure, while the luminous color transitions blur the boundaries between interior and exterior space. The lower portion, rendered in cool blues and whites, hints at water, sky reflections, or shifting shadows, creating a visual counterpoint to the warm, sunlit tones above.

The work balances abstraction and suggestion, inviting viewers to discover their own narrative within its shapes and colors. Its palette of glowing golds, citrus greens, terracotta oranges, and tranquil blues conveys warmth, openness, and contemplation. The overall effect is dreamlike and architectural, capturing the essence of a landscape, building, or memory distilled into color, light, and form.

It is hand-signed and dated both on the front and the back. High quality acrylic paints used on a 1 1/2" deep gallery wrapped, quality 10 ounce thick cotton duck canvas. Stretched on a reinforced wooden frame, this gallery wrapped canvas is splined on the back and painted on all sides to reveal a wraparound painting. It is ready to hang unframed and comes with all hanging hardware attached. It is archival and will last for decades to come.

Art makes a perfect complement to any home or office.
