Surreal Cityscape Drawing – Pen and Ink (18"x24" Original Art )

This pen and ink ORIGINAL drawing with pencil shading is by contemporary New Mexico artist Thomas Hill and measures 18" x 24" on high quality, heavyweight archival art paper.

The image shows a complex black and white artwork with a variety of surreal elements and intricate details. Dominating the composition is a dreamlike array of floating and morphing forms that defy a coherent narrative or physical laws.
On the left side, there's a bone, transitioning into flowing organic shapes resembling tendrils or vines. Attached to the bone are barbed wires and a partial ladder.
Above the bone, there's a rectangle filled with a grid-like pattern interspersed with dots, which could symbolize a building facade or window. Next to this is a rounded form with crater-like indentations, reminiscent of the moon.
Below, a grasshopper-like figure seems to be reaching outward, holding onto a chain that suspends an object resembling either a platform or a rug over an undefined abyss. The insect’s highly detailed face and expression connote surprise or disbelief. The figure's legs extend into a surreal morphing shape that combines aspects of urban imagery, such as buildings with a flowing, almost watery texture.
On the right, a several shapes seems to melt into a grid form hovering above a representation of the earth, adding to the disorienting mix of textures and patterns.
Throughout the artwork, scattered hands reach out from different angles, some attached to ambiguous forms while others float freely, adding a human element to the abstract visual narrative.
Overall, the artwork is rich in symbolic and abstract elements that suggest a dreamlike or otherworldly scene, inviting the viewer to decipher their meanings and relationships within this surreal landscape.
